The Challenge

Cycling has been officially promoted since 2009, the year CU started receiving support from Metropolitan Electricity Authority, to achieve the following goals:

  1. Reduce carbon monoxide emisions from vehicles, which is a major cause to global warming and harm to health .
  2. Promote exercise via cycling.
  3. Reduce vehicle traffic within and around campus.
  4. Promote efficient use of energy.

The Method

Beginning in 2010, CU has received more than 500 bicycles from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority for internal use to decrease global warming.

  • In 2010, the university received 100 bikes from the MEA, which were distributed among  faculties and institutes.
  • In 2011, 150 bikes were given to CU for internal use .
  • In 2012, the university received 150 more bikes to commemorate HM the Queen’s birthday.
  • In 2015, the university received 150 additional bikes from the MEA.
In 2013, a bike sharing service was implemented on campus with 100 bicycles made available. In 2014, CU started cooperating with “Pun-Pun” to upgrade the bike sharing service. Seven “Pun-Pun” bike stations were built within and around campus, four on campus, and three at Siam Square.

The Result
