 Building Renovation Project

The Challenge

The Office of Academic Resorces, or the CU Central Library, was the first building to be renovated under this project when a “Humidity Control”  system was installed. The goals of this renovation are to:

1. Reduce energy consumption by improving building structures.

2. Serve as a role model for energy saving.

3. Raise awareness of students, faculty, staff and the general public regarding the benefits of efficient use of energy.

Reducing energy consumption is great. It lowers costs. Chula can be a good example for individuals and organizations.

I like that the library can be open everyday. The system that helps conserve of energy is so important as it means we can study when we want.

The Method

The implementation process has been divided into 6 compenents, including:

Component 1: Water Cooler Pump

– Move old water cooler pump to be part of the secondary system
– Install Inverted, 11kW water cooler pump  in the primary system
– Install VSD equipment

Component 2: Indoor Air Quality Control System via Outdoor Air

– Install AHU Fresh Air system on 7th Floor
– Install air ventilation to utilize outdoor air in the building
– Install CO2 system as part of air management

Component 3: Building Automation Control System

– Install system to monitor air conditioning
– Introduce staff training and supervision to maximize air conditioning control system efficiency

Component 4: Interior Lighting Control

– Install T5 bulbs  for sustainable, high performance
– Separate control circuits into zones and install sensors to detect user action

Cmponent 5: Thermal Insulator

– Improve OTTV by installing energy-efficient glass on 1st and 7th floors
– Improve RTTV by installing 1-inch PU  Foam covered with 1-inch concrete and installing PVC       roof conduits  on 6th and 7th floors

Component 6: Energy-efficient Water Taps

– Install energy-efficient water taps to conserve water and electricity
– Install automatic faucets, leaving only one old-model faucet per restroom

I like it when we can reduce energy consumption. The uni can spend what is saved for some other important services  for students.

The Result

The energy consumption rate of the CU Library has been reduced by 10% since the renovation was completed, making this a great example that can be expanded to other buildings.

Next Step

CU intends to improve the energy-saving quality and performance of all university buildings by maintaining equipment and technologies up-to-date. Renovations under the same concept will \ be implemented to other buildings during appropriate fiscal years.

Honestly, this is so important, reducing energy costs so money can be spent e
