The Challenge
Solving traffic and pollution problems is a hard task for every metropolitan community. Nevertheless, CU did not leave the issues idle and has come up with solutions such as constructing covered walkways and a sky walk within and around the campus to achieve the following goals:
- To provide cmfort and convenience to all those who want to commute to nearby locations by walking
- To reduce the amount of cars and motorcycles inside the university
- To reduce carbon dioxide emissions
- To promote healthy lifestyles among students, faculty, staff and the general public by encouraging people to exercise by walking
- To protect people from rain and intense sunlight
I enjoy walking and the covered walkways are great. They’re safe and now I get more exercise. T campus greenery also makes me want to walk more. I wish Chula people would choose to walk rahrer than use their own vehicles. It would help reduce pollution.

The planning and construction of covered walkways and the sky walk were completed by taking the following steps:
- Specific campus areas were studies to assess the feasibility of potential construction.
- A pilot covered walkway was constructed in front of Satit Chula School as test project to determine investment outcomes.
- After ROI was analyzed and approved, covered walkways and a sky walk were constructed at other locations and extended to popular destinations, such as the BTS Siam and National Stadium (MBK) stations, and MRT Samyan station.
Walking under the cover way is safe and convenient.
Kids and parent using the cover way to commute within campus.
People are safe from road incidents when using the cover ways.
People using cover way after exercising.
Cover way and trees protect people from sunlight.
The Result
A survey conducted among students, faculty, staff and the general public has shown that people can conveniently walk to nearby locations protected from rain and sunlight provided by the covered walkways and sky walk.
There are a few places that can’t be accessed by cars. So, I use the covered walkways that protect me from sunlight and the rain.
Kamolkon BuangsuangI frequently use the covered walkways. It’s safe and enjoyable to walk in the greenery.
Jirafast TabjangI use the covered walkways often. They protet me from the hot sun and rain. They pretty much lead anywhere and it’s faster than using a car,

The university must maintain the covered walkways and sky walk within and around campus as well as explore more suitable areas for constructing and extending the covered walkways and adding other sky walks to cover more of the campus and its surroundings.
I walk frequently. It is so great to have the covered pathways. When I see so many lined up to get on a shutter bus, I think it’s easier to just walk.
Satienpong PannawatwisutI use the covered walkways, particularly when it’s raining or when the sun is shining bright. It is often also faster because of traffic.
